Team Fat Chance

In the early '80's Chris Chance began producing mountain bikes in his Sommerville, MA, shop. Fairly quickly his company, Fat City, was known better for mountain bikes than road. The "Yo Eddy!" was the culmination of ten years of frame building and the ultimate bike to be produced by Fat City.

Fat City was located in Sommerville until 1994 when Chris moved the company to Sarasota, NY, and sat up shop with Serrotta frames. The remaining Fat employees went on to form Independent Fabrications, where they still build excellent frames. My Yo was build in Sommerville prior to the move to NY.

The Yo, and most other Fats, is easily recognized by it's non-tapered rear stays and meaty main tubes. Also the Yo Eddy! fork, a great looking segmented fork, is classic Fat City.

Fat City was likely the largest and most famous east coast frame shop during the infancy of mountain bikes. They survived for twenty years, and their spirit lives on in IF Bikes.
