Who Says that Orange and Green Don't Go Together? Mountain Goat frames were made in Chico, CA, by Jeff Lindsay a member of the mountain bike hall of fame. Jeff began producing mountain frames in 1981, and continued into the late '90s. The "Whiskeytown Racer" was the name of his race bike. In 1991, the frame was called the "Whiskeytown Lite" although it appears to be the same Tange Prestige frame as was used other years. This Goat has the original green and orange "team splatter" paint job. Lindsay was known for applying wild paint schemes to his bikes, and this happens to be my favorite. I feel that it's the most classic paint scheme used by Mountain Goat. The Whiskeytowns had shorter chain stays and a steeper head tube angle than the other models available from Mountain Goat. The bike was designed for racing, and provides a quick but stable ride. To date it's one of the best mountain bikes that I've ridden, and I count it among my favorite rides. The picture to the left was taken at the First Annual Vintage Mountain Bikes Gathering held March, 2005, at the Keyesville Classic Mountain Bike Race (located east of Bakersfield, CA). As the event grows in future years to include a race class for vintage bikes, I hope to race this bike there. Until then I'll ride it somewhat regularly and enjoy many miles on the bike.
