Ritchey Swiss Cross
I bought this bike used in the fall of 2002 in Santa Cruz, CA. The bike was in great shape, and
I'm not real sure how many miles were on it when I bought it (although I suspect not many). I'm guessing it was made in 2000, but it
easily could be 2001. Who knows.
The bike rides great! It climbs well, and it's fun on-road, or off.
I started racing in the Surf City Cyclocross Race Series in Santa Cruz, CA, in the fall of 2003, and continues to race 'cross after moving to Boise. The bike has been great for both racing and trail riding. With big 38mm knobby tires, the SwissCross handles most trails with ease.
The frame came with the "plexus" style swept seat stays. I have no idea if they smooth out the ride, but they certainly look cool - and
that's what matters, right? The bike rides nicely in any case.
I've ridden this bike on several long road rides, including the 2003 Mount Hamilton Challenge,
which was a little over 130 miles and included about 8,000 feet of climbing, and a century in the Santa Cruz Mountains (although I bailed
after 8,700 feet of climbing in about 80 miles - my legs weren't up for it that day). Other than spinning
out the low 'cross gearing, the bike works great as a road bike. And as a CX bike, I have no complaints.
